Main Message:
As our children return to school, this khutbah turns the question back on us: when are we going back to learning?Seeking beneficial knowledge is not something that ends when we leave school, university or madrasah. In an age overflowing with information, the challenge is not simply finding answers, but learning from trustworthy teachers, developing properly, and remaining humble enough to recognise how much we still do not know.

Back to school is for adults too — We carefully plan our children’s education, but our own Islamic learning can easily become neglected.
Information is not the same as knowledge — Having access to endless content does not mean we are becoming wiser or more grounded.
The teacher matters — A good teacher, sound methodology and effective delivery can shape how well knowledge reaches the heart.
Past experiences can affect present learning — A poor experience at school, madrasah or an Islamic class should not stop us from seeking knowledge today.
Learn from people you can trust — Seek scholars and teachers whose knowledge, character and credibility are recognised by other trustworthy people of knowledge.
Learning is lifelong — We should never reach a stage where we feel we have learnt enough about our dīn.
Three Ways to Go “Back to School”:
1. Choose One Area to Study Properly
Instead of consuming random clips and disconnected information, choose one area of Islam and study it systematically with a reliable teacher or structured resource.
2. Prioritise the Teacher, Not Just the Topic
Do not choose a class simply because the subject sounds interesting. Look carefully at who is teaching, how they teach, and whether their approach helps you understand and practise what you learn.
3. Become a Learning Role Model
If we want our children to value knowledge, they need to see us learning too. Let them see us attending classes, reading, asking questions and continuing to develop.

May Allah grant us beneficial knowledge, sincere teachers and hearts that remain humble enough to keep learning.
May He protect us from ignorance, misinformation and knowledge that does not benefit us.
May He make us and our families people of knowledge, understanding and action.
